Long Term Causes of the Civil War
The Compromise of 1850 helped cause the war by causing conflict on both side of the invisible slave border. Northerners were now forced to return slaves back to the south making them more involved in slavery. The southerners found it unfair that the new territories were becoming free states. The Kansas Nebraska Act also helped cause the war by causing fighting between the north and the south. What was supposed to be a peaceful voting on whether the two new territories would become slave state or free states instead caused a battle between the radicals on both sides. The Republican party caused the civil war their views were completely different then the views the south had. President Lincoln set the fire down in the south, once Lincoln was elected the south though he would try to end slavery and they decided to brake away.
